When a family wears an uniform

A lecture about resilience, identity, and the healing of the Jewish soul.

This lecture is not about politics.
It is a story told by David, a Major and commander in the Golani Brigade, and by Katya, a dancer, writer, and mother of two.
Together, they share how a family lives through war, separation, and hope.
It is a story of love, resilience, and healing  — a glimpse of light even in the darkest moments.

WHO WE ARE

DAVID BULLET

David is a Major and team commander in the Golani Brigade, with 25 years of service in the IDF.

  • Outstanding Soldier (2001)

  • Holder of the IDF record for the Obstacle Course Test (2002)

  • Chief of Staff’s Outstanding Soldier (2003)

  • IDF Combat Fitness Champion (2004)

Beyond his military achievements, David is an educator and leader. He taught at the Wingate Institute, Israel’s national center for physical education and sport, and served as a school vice-principal. His life has always been dedicated to training, guiding, and inspiring the next generation.

When war broke out on October 7, everything changed. David left his lectures and classrooms behind, and for nine months he served on the front lines with Israel’s reserve forces, protecting the country during its most difficult days.

KATYA MALAYA

Katya is a dance educator, choreographer, writer, and mother of two. Her life was far from the military world, centered instead on creativity, education, and storytelling.

During the war, she held the home front with unwavering strength, documenting daily life, sharing her husband’s absence, and connecting with thousands through her honest, hopeful words. She turned private struggle into a collective story of perseverance and healing.

WHAT WE OFFER

A 60–75 minute lecture that combines:

  • A deeply personal family story, told with honesty and emotional depth.

  • Reflections on resilience, Jewish identity, and healing.

  • A rare dual perspective: the commander on the front lines and the mother on the home front.

Their lecture brings these two perspectives — the commander and the mother, the soldier and the storyteller — into one shared story. A story not about politics, but about family, resilience, and the Jewish spirit of renewal.

  • Photos and videos from Israel for an immersive experience that brings the story to life.

Ideal for Jewish Federations, community centers, schools, and cultural events.

WHY IT MATTERS

This is not just a lecture—it’s a rare and powerful human story.

In a time when many are tired of hearing about war and politics, this lecture offers something different.
It does not divide. It unites.
It is not about conflict. It is about family, love, and the Jewish spirit of survival and renewal.

Audiences leave with a sense of hope, inspiration, and a deeper connection to Israel and the Jewish people.

TESTIMONIALS

Rabbi Alicia Magal, Sedona, AZ

"David and Katya offered a program to our congregants in Sedona, Arizona recently that was exciting and very well-received.  David spoke at the Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat service about his experiences as a reserve officer in the IDF. His talk was illustrated by a power-point set of slides and videos that showed both his army unit as well as how his wife and children dealt with his long absences.

Katya led Israeli folk dancing at the oneg following services.  She has years of experience from her dance studio is Israel, and was easily able to simplify well-known dances for older, less physically agile, congregants.

This is a very worthwhile program that brought a personal touch to our prayers over these 450 days since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023."
